I want to speak and I want to be heard.
The show is the McGuffin and can therefore be seen as absolutely necessary and impor- tant in it’s own right or as a mere plot device, the action surrounding it holding the weight and import.
In an effort to explore the limited agency of the artist in these uncertain times, I put to- gether a show of works of artists I have recently spent a good deal of time thinking about and looking to.
In response to a scheduling conflict, or lack thereof, I decided to put together a show. The works in the show speak about the desires of the Ego and the Other and the concomi- tant anxiety of this relationship; the battle with an inner—perhaps weaker—voice these desires produce; and the supplanting of such anxieties in favor of a genuine hunger for epistemological and ontological thought and development. This was the starting point. Through the digital networks of each of the original artists – looking at the other artists on their galleries’ websites and from there the other artists’ other galleries’ websites and so on – the list of artists grew. The rapidity with which ideas take form and change hands, evidenced by this network and its use in organizing/curating, moves a subjective con- nection with an artwork quickly into an objective one, in service of the Art Profession at large.
Through the time and involvement with the work and the network, organizing necessitates, the Show grew complex and expansive and the subjective relationship to the work took precedence – a formative experience.
Transit through the digital to the libidinal. Transit through organization to influence.
